When Do Major Sports Seasons Start and End?

Racetrack for NASCAR Racing Season

With so many sports going on, it can be hard to keep track of when certain seasons start and stop – and you might be wondering when you can expect your favorite sports to be going on. Luckily, the popular sports seasons happen all throughout the year, meaning you can watch one sport’s regular season while another is having their off season. From the NHL to the PGA Tour schedules, use this general calendar to stay in the loop.

When is NASCAR Season?

The National Association for Stock Car Auto Racing (NASCAR) schedule consists of 36 races that take place over the course of ten months. Similar to both UFC events and the PGA Tour, technically NASCAR does not have a defined season. Instead of a season, there are 36 races that start in February with the Daytona 500. The last race of the series typically takes place in November with the NASCAR Cup Series Championship.

When is MLS Season?

The Major League Soccer (MLS) regular season typically starts in late February or early March and runs through mid-October, with each team playing 34 games split between 17 home games and 17 away games. The MLS Cup playoffs are the annual postseason elimination tournament. They begin in October, after the conclusion of the regulation MLS season.

When is the NCAA College Football Season?

With training happening throughout the school year and the regular season beginning around the start of the collegiate year, the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) college football season begins the Thursday before Labor Day, and the regular season concludes on the first Saturday in December with the NCAA annual Army-Navy game. If a team is in the College Football Playoff, they continue to play in January.

When is NFL Season?

The National Football League (NFL) regular season starts in early September after Labor Day. It then continues for the next seventeen weeks, during which time a total of 256 games are played. The final week is usually the last weekend of December, though it can extend into January depending on the NFL season. The play-off tournament then starts the next week and concludes four weeks later in the first week of February with the Super Bowl.

When is PGA Season?

The Professional Golfers’ Association (PGA) Tour season is a year-round sporting season. Though tournaments take place nearly every month throughout the year, the official PGA Tour season typically starts in mid-September and ends in late August or early September with the FedExCup Playoffs. Throughout the season, there are major tournaments such as the U.S. Open and Masters Tournament.

When is NBA Season?

The National Basketball Association (NBA) regular season begins in mid-October and lasts approximately 6 months, with each team playing 82 games excluding the All-Star Weekend break. NBA playoffs typically start around mid to late April and end around early- to mid-June. Depending on the competitiveness of the matches in the playoffs, a season for the NBA can be extended.

When is NHL Season?

The National Hockey League (NHL) season is divided into the regular season and the Stanley Cup playoffs. In the regular season, which generally runs from early October through early April, teams play 82 games which determine their standings. The three highest-placed teams in each division and two wild card teams per conference enter the playoff elimination tournament to determine the Stanley Cup champion.

Basketball Teams Playing During NCAA Basketball Season

When is the NCAA College Basketball Season?

Similar to the start of the NCAA college football season, college basketball also takes the school year schedule into account. The NCAA college basketball season normally starts in mid-November and normally ends in mid-April after March Madness with 33 games during the regular season. The winner and the loser of the championship game both play six more games more than the regular teams.

When is MLB Season?

The Major League Baseball (MLB) season begins in late March or early April and runs until the end of September. During the regular season, each club has a schedule of 162 games split between home and away games. The post-season playoffs then start a couple of days after the regular season ends. The post-season then runs through October, culminating in the World Series toward the end of the month.

When is UFC Season?

The Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) schedule doesn’t necessarily have a season, as fights and events take place throughout the year. Instead of having a typical season schedule, fights have been happening in chronological order since UFC 1 in 1993. By the end of 2021, there will have been 269 chronological UFC fights, and 589 total UFC events including Fight Nights. Nice 2012, there have been 31-46 UFC events per year.
