2023 NASCAR Schedule & What To Expect This Season

Race Track at Night for 2023 NASCAR Races

The 2023 NASCAR Cup Series is underway, and we’re gearing up for a special season. As a sport we get to enjoy year-round, the 2023 NASCAR schedule is chock-full of fantastic races across the country and across the calendar. For the Cup Chase, it narrows down to a round of 12 in September, followed by a round of 8 in October, and culminating with the NASCAR Cup Series Championship on November 5, 2023, at Phoenix Raceway in Avondale, Arizona.

When it comes to the 2023 NASCAR schedule, there are a few important races, including the famous Daytona 500 and Las Vegas’ Pennzoil 400, that have already taken place this year. With those already passed, there are still some exciting races on the schedule – like the South Point 400 for round 8 of the playoffs in Las Vegas this October.

With many more months on the schedule, there is plenty of time for someone unexpected to come out of the woodwork and take it all, so there are plenty of great NASCAR race predictions to be made. In this guide, we’ll go through some of the biggest races this season and who might be a good idea to toss some pennies on if you’re planning on betting on NASCAR.

The Stars of the Show

The defending champion is always someone to be reckoned with, and that’s certainly the case with Joey Logano. In addition to winning in 2022, Logano also won it all in 2018. His championship prowess and experience will pay dividends. Logano, who will turn 33 during the season, is driving the No. 22 Ford Mustang for Team Penske. He has a history of firsts, including being the youngest-ever winner in two of NASCAR’s top three divisions. In 2009, he was named rookie of the year; in 2016, he became the second-youngest Daytona 500 winner in history.

Someone else to watch closely is Ricky Stenhouse Jr. The Mississippi native broke a 199-race winless streak in the best race possible — the Daytona 500. It was the longest Daytona 500 race in history. It’s the type of magical win that could propel him toward a special season.

There’s also the veteran Kevin Harvick. A multiple-time champion and a winner of all the major races on the calendar, Harvick is off to a great start this season. The longest-tenured active driver in the Cup Series, his experience should never be taken for granted.

Finally, there’s Alex Bowman. He knows a thing or two about filling big shoes. In 2017, he took over the No. 88 Chevrolet from Dale Earnhardt Jr. Now, he’s taken over the No. 48 car from Jimmie Johnson. So he won’t be intimidated by the Cup Chase.

Important 2023 NASCAR Races

The GEICO 500 at the Talladega Superspeedway in Lincoln, Alabama, is a classic race. One of the most iconic tracks in the sport, this race is always a must-see. In 2022, Ross Chastain took home the race. That win helped catapult him to a second-place finish in the Cup Series, just six points behind the eventual winner, Joey Logano. So whoever wins the race, be sure to pay close attention.

Another classic is the Coca-Cola 600. Held in Charlotte, North Carolina, this is the longest race on NASCAR’s schedule. Because it’s so long, the track conditions change as day turns to night. It’s also notable because it’s held on the same day as the iconic Indianapolis 500. Some bold drivers try to do both on the same day.Last season, With two overtime finishes, it came just 46 seconds shy of being the longest race by time. However, it broke the record for the longest NASCAR race by 12 miles. Denny Hamlin finally took the win home.

And finally, you won’t want to miss the finale of the NASCAR Cup season. This will take place in Phoenix, Arizona, and crown the season’s winner.
